# How to Avoid Amazon Gift Card Scams

> Avoid Amazon gift card scams: never share claim codes, never pay bills or fees with gift cards, and only redeem at the official Amazon.com/redeem.

Get Started Button

Only redeem gift cards on the real **amazon.com/redeem** page. Never share your claim code, and never pay anyone with gift cards for taxes, bills, fines, tech support, or prizes. Anyone who asks for that is a scammer.

## Stay safe step by step

**1. Type the address yourself**

Go to amazon.com/redeem directly. Skip links in messages.

**2. Keep your code private**

Treat the claim code like cash.

**3. Ignore payment demands**

Real companies and government offices do not ask for gift card payments.

**4. Do not trust urgent calls**

Scammers create panic. Hang up and verify on your own.

**5. Report scams**

Report to Amazon through its official website and to your local consumer protection agency. In the US, report at [ReportFraud.ftc.gov](https://reportfraud.ftc.gov).

## Warning signs

* Someone asks you to read the code over the phone.
* A "prize" requires you to buy gift cards first.
* A website looks like Amazon but has a strange address.
* Pressure to act fast or keep it secret.
