# Can I Redeem an Amazon Gift Card for Someone Else?

> A redeemed Amazon gift card stays on the account that redeemed it. Give the unused claim code to the person instead, so they can redeem it themselves.

Get Started Button

A gift card balance stays on the account that redeemed it and generally cannot be moved to another account. If the card is for someone else, give them the **unused claim code** so they can redeem it on their own account at **amazon.com/redeem**.

## If the card is for someone else

**1. Do not redeem it yourself**

Keep the code unused.

**2. Give them the card or code**

Hand over the card or forward the gift email.

**3. They sign in to their account**

On amazon.com/redeem.

**4. They enter the code**

The balance goes to their account.

## Redeemed on the wrong account?

**1. Check which account you used**

Look at the email address you signed in with.

**2. Contact Amazon customer service**

Use the official Amazon website and explain the issue.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Want to send money as a gift? Buy a new Amazon gift card for that person instead of redeeming one for them.
