# Can You Redeem an Amazon Gift Card Without an Account?

No. You need an Amazon account to redeem a gift card, because the balance is stored in your account. Creating an account is free and takes a few minutes. Then redeem the code at **amazon.com/redeem**.

## Create an account and redeem

**1. Go to amazon.com**

Select **Account & Lists**, then **Start here** or **Create account**.

**2. Enter your details**

Add your name, email or phone number, and a password.

**3. Verify your email or phone**

Enter the code Amazon sends you.

**4. Go to amazon.com/redeem**

You are now signed in.

**5. Enter your claim code**

Then select **Apply to your balance**.
